Masked Mosaic: Canadian Super Stories Anthology Seeks Submissions

A press release from Tina Moreau of Tyche Books:
Claude Lalumière and Camille Alexa will edit Masked Mosaic: Canadian Super Stories for Tyche Books, Ltd. The anthology, which will collect stories from the superhero genre, will be an all-Canadian affair, from the cover art to the editors and contributing authors. Submissions open on June 1, 2012 and close on August 1, 2012.
Masked Mosaic will be published in spring 2013 in part to honour and celebrate the 75th anniversary of Superman. Joseph “Joe” Shuster, a Canadian, was co-creator and the original artist of the iconic comic book character. Selected stories will feature “new, original characters, (that) bring to life some aspect of the Canadian mosaic,” says Claude Lalumière, co-editor of the anthology.
In addition to the Canadian creative team, a Canadian element within the story is essential. Setting, character, culture, politics, history—if it’s Canadian, the editors want to see it. And while superheros are the obvious choice for main characters, stories about villains, scientists, vigilantes, and mutants are welcome.

They’re looking for stories between 1,000 and 10,000 words. Payment is two cents per word for short stories, up to $125 for 10,000 word-stories.
About the editors: Claude Lalumière is the author of Objects of Worship and The Door to Lost Pages, the Fantastic Fiction columnist for The Montreal Gazette, and the co-creator of Lost Myths. He has edited ten other anthologies in various genres, the most recent of which is Bibliotheca Fantastica, an autumn 2012 release from Dagan Books. His most recent superhero story is “The Weirdo Adventures of Steve Rand” in Tesseracts Fifteen: A Case of Quite Curious Tales, edited by Julie Czerneda and Susan MacGregor.
Camille Alexa’s short fiction collection, Push of the Sky, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and was nominated for the Endeavour Award. She has been known to review books, live music, chocolate bars, puppets, and other cultural artefacts for The Green Man Review and its sister site, Sleeping Hedgehog. She’s represented by the Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency on the coast opposite to the one where she lives, and her supervillain story “Pinktastic and the End of the World” is forthcoming in When the Villain Comes Home, edited by Gabrielle Harbowy and Ed Greenwood.
