Author K.D. Wentworth Dies

Steven H Silver is reporting the death of author K.D. (Kathy) Wentworth on 18 April 2012, of complications related to cancer and pneumonia. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on 27 January 1951, she “got her start winning in the Writers of the Future Contest in 1988, and then later won the Field Publications Teachers as Writers Award in 1991,” according to her web site. That WotF winner, her first published story, was “Daddy’s Girls.” She went on to publish nine novels and more than fifty short stories, which appeared in such markets as Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, Aboriginal Science Fiction, Pulphouse, Return to the Twilight Zone, Fantasy & Science Fiction, and Realms of Fantasy. Three of her short stories were Nebula finalists: “Tall One,” “Burning Bright,” and “Born Again.” Most recently, she had a novelette called “Alien Land” in the January/February issue of F&SF.
Her first novel, The Imperium Game, was published by Del Rey in 1994. Her most recent, The Crucible Of Empire, was co-written with Eric Flint, and published by Baen in 2010.
