Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which opened on 29 June and still managed to wind up at #2, moved up to #1 in its first full week in release, transforming $149.2 million, for a one-plus week total of $214.0 million. Cars 2 slipped from #1 to #2, revving up $42.7 million, for a two-week total of $133.6 million. Tom Hanks comedy Larry Crowne opened at #4. Super 8 held onto the #5 spot, making $12.7 million, for a four-week total of $113.2 million. Comedy Monte Carlo opened at #6. Green Lantern slipped from #4 to #7, shining up $10.9 million, for a three-week total of $106.6 million.
X-Men: First Class fell from #4 to #11, earning $4.9 million, for a five-week total of $140.6 million. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, slipped from #10 to #13, seeking out $3.6 million, for a seven-week total of $235.2 million. Kung Fu Panda 2 slipped from #11 to #14, kicking up $3.0 million, for a six-week total of $158.1 million. Rio slipped from #15 to #18, flying away with $850 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $140.9 million. Thor fell from #16 to #20, pounding down $650 thousand, for a nine-week total of $178.2 million.
