Actress Neva Patterson Dies

Actress Neva Patterson died 14 December 2010 of complications from a broken hip. Born 10 February in either 1920 or 1922 (sources conflict) in Nevada, Iowa, she graduated from high school in 1937, and worked secretarial jobs to make her way to New York. She debuted on Broadway in 1947, in The Druid Circle, and originated the role of Helen Sherman in The Seven Year Itch in 1952. Her television debut came in 1949, and her first film role was in 1953’s Taxi. In 1957, she was cast as Cary Grant’s fiancee, Lois, in An Affair to Remember.
In 1983 and 1984, she appeared as Eleanor Dupres in the television movie V and then the mini-series V: The Final Battle. Her other genre appearances include: All of Me (1984), Logan’s Run (1977), Tales of the Unexpected (1977), Circle of Fear (1973), and Lights Out (1949).
Patterson was married three times, to Thomas Gallagher and Michael Ellis (both marriages ended quickly in divorce) and then to writer James Lee (from 1957 until his death in 2002). They had two children.
