2010 British Fantasy Award Winners

The British Fantasy Society announced the winners of their 2010 British Fantasy Awards this weekend at this year’s British Fantasy Convention, FantasyCon 2010, which was held in Nottingham, UK. As always, the awards are voted by the members of the BFS and members of this and last year’s FantasyCon.
In addition to the voted awards, other awards were given. The Sydney J. Bounds Award for Best Newcomer (selected by a panel of judges) went to Kari Sperring for Living with Ghosts (published by DAW). The Karl Edward Wagner Special Award (selected by the BFS Committee) was given to Robert Holdstock. And the results of the BFS Short Story Competition 2010 were announced: the winning story was “Omar the Teller of Tales” by Robin Tompkins. Runner up was “The Song” by Travis Heermann, and third place went to “Beating Heart” by Dan Malach.

Best Novel (The August Derleth Fantasy Award): One by Conrad Williams (Virgin Horror)
Best Novella: The Language of Dying by Sarah Pinborough (PS)
Best Short Fiction: “What Happens when You Wake up in the Night” by Michael Marshall Smith (Nightjar)
Best Anthology: The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 20 edited by Stephen Jones (Constable and Robinson)
Best Collection: Love Songs for the Shy and Cynical by Robert Shearman (Big Finish)
The PS Publishing Best Small Press Award: Telos Publishing (David Howe)
Best Comic/Graphic Novel: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? by Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert (DC)
Best Artist: Vincent Chong (for work including covers for The Witnesses are Gone and Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 20) [Chong also won this award last year]
Best Non-Fiction: Ansible Link by David Langford (http://news.ansible.co.uk)
Best Magazine/Periodical: Murky Depths edited by Terry Martin (The House of Murky Depths)
Best Television: Doctor Who (BBC1)
Best Film: Let the Right One in directed by Tomas Alfredson (EFTI)
