Baen’s Lyric Writing Contest

It’s not a big prize, but if you’re an aspiring lyricist, and punning is your hobby, you might want to enter Baen Books new contest. According to Editorial Assistant Laura Haywood-Cory, the publisher “wants your best Baen-mas carols!”
She wrote (over the blizzardy weekend in which we here at the spacious SFScope offices received only a scant eleven inches of snow) “Now that it’s snowing (however briefly) here at the [North Carolina] office, we’re in the holiday spirit, but alas, we have no music to match the season!”
So they’re looking for your lyrics. Take a standard holiday tune, re-write the lyrics to reference Baen authors, books, or favorite characters (make sure it’s no raunchier than PG-13), and send it (along with the title of the original) to info at baen dot com. Deadline is mid-January.
The winner “will have his/her entry rendered by the staff at Baen Books, with video posted online.”
The judges (the Baen editors) will judge lyrics on “originality, sophisticated word play (okay, puns) and overall fun factor.”
