Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 23-29 May 2008. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was #3 on the list last week despite the fact that it had only been open one day, is this week’s #1 moving, bringing in $145.8 million in its first full week in release, for a total take of nearly $170.9 million. The fedora, the whip, and the skull pushed The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian from #1 to the #2 spot, as it brought in more than $34.6 million in its second week in release, for a total of $102.7 million. Iron Man also dropped, from #2 to #3, taking in nearly $30.5 million, for a four-week total of $262.6 million. Speed Racer held steady in the #5 spot, grossing $6.2 million for a three-week total of $38.4 million.
Horton Hears a Who jumped from #14 to #11, and actually increased its box office take this week, bringing in more than $750 thousand for an eleven-week total of $152.2 million. The Forbidden Kingdom dropped from #10 to #12, grossing nearly $700 thousand, for a six-week total of $51.5 million. Nim’s Island was down from #12 to #15, taking in almost $500 thousand for an eight-week total of $45.9 million. Prom Night dropped from #15 to #20, grossing just over $250 thousand for a seven-week total of $43.8 million. 10,000 B.C. was down from #24 to #25, grossing more than $150 thousand for a twelve-week total of $94.6 million.
