SFWA announces Nebula Awards Weekend and Piracy Committee news

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America have announced plans for the 2008 Nebula Awards Weekend, which will be held 25-28 April at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown in Austin, Texas. The hotel is now taking reservations for rooms, starting at $149 per night.
Hospitality and registration will open Thursday evening, 24 April, with programing beginning on Friday afternoon. The SFWA business meeting will be held on Saturday afternoon, and the awards banquet will be held Saturday evening. As usual, all activities (except the business meeting, which is for active members only) are open to anyone who purchases tickets. They recommend advance purchase, but aren’t yet ready to make the sales. Full details, with updates as they come, are at this page.
In addition to the awards, the organization has announced some internal business. The Board of Directors voted 8-1 to revive the Electronic Piracy Committee (which was disbanded in the wake of the Scribd to-do [see this article]). It will be renamed the Copyright Committee, and will be staffed by the same members and chairman it had when it was disbanded. In addition, the Board announced new oversight guidelines, aimed at averting some of the troubles which resulted from the committee’s work in August. For the text of the announcement, see this page.
