Issue #12 of Æon Speculative Fiction—which calls itself “a quarterly electronic magazine of fiction and nonfiction of interest to readers of science fiction and fantasy”—will be available very soon. Edited by Marti McKenna and Bridget McKenna, they currently have a preview page available, which has teasers for:
“Harry the Crow” by John Kratman
“Fitzwell’s Oracle” by Lawrence M. Schoen
“Toys” by Dev Agarwal
“The Butterfly Man” by Sarah L. Edwards
“Her Box of Secrets” by Lisa Mantchev
“Moonlight on the Carpet” by David D. Levine
“Welcome to Oceanopia!” by Katharine Sparrow
In addition to the new issue, they’ve announced that pay rates for writers will double—from three to six cents a word—with issue #13. “We’re thrilled to be able to give our authors a better deal,” said Bridget McKenna, “and so far, they don’t seem to mind, either.” Authors with stories already contracted for issues #13 and beyond will receive revised contracts reflecting the pay increase.
