Chuck Gannon wins Compton Crook Award

As reported by the author and his publisher, Chuck Gannon is the winner of this year’s Compton Crook Award for best first sf novel, for his [[[Fire With Fire]]] (which we reviewed in this article).

The Baltimore Science Fiction Society presents the award, which consists of a check for $1000.00 and a plaque which will be presented to Gannon at 8:00pm on Friday, May 23, 2014 during the Opening Ceremonies of Balticon 48, the annual Maryland Regional Science Fiction Convention.

The Compton Crook Award is presented for the best first novel in the genre published in the previous year by the members of the Baltimore Science Fiction Society. The Award was named in memory of Towson State College Professor of Natural Sciences Compton Crook, who wrote under the name Stephen Tall, and who died in 1981. The award has been presented since 1983 and is also known as the Compton Crook/Stephen Tall Award.
