Waylines Magazine seeks Kickstarter funding for second year of publication

photo-main1Darryl Knickrehm of Waylines Magazine (the hybrid prose/video ezine) writes to tell us “we’re gearing up to do Year Two of Waylines Magazine and today we’re starting our Kickstarter Campaign which runs from Jan 10 to Feb 10 (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/344123031/waylines-magazine-year-two). We’re really trying to make this second year great, trying to become a SFWA qualified market,  publishing more stories per issue, and adding poetry (and possibly comics) to the mix. We’re all really excited about this new year.”

On Kickstarter, they write:

What is Waylines?

Waylines is a speculative fiction magazine that publishes science-fiction, fantasy and horror AND streams short genre films. In our first year we published 14 stories and screened 18 films. Now we’re back to make Year Two a reality!

What You Are Funding:

Waylines is available for FREE at http://www.waylinesmagazine.com. In each issue we feature 2 to 3 short works of fiction, 1 editorial, 3 films, 1 or 2 interviews and for Year Two, we are hoping to add poetry and comics to the mix.

While all of this is free to the reader, it is only possible if we can pay for the work done for Waylines. We pay pro-rates to our hardworking authors ($.06 a word for fiction, $20 flat fee for poems, and $40 a page for comics). Your dollars will go directly towards paying them and towards a few other fees like server space.

Our Fiction, Films & Interviews:

In the past year we published some stellar fiction from authors like Jake Kerr, Eric Del Carlo, and Anaea Lay. For our films, we screened some amazing pieces from up and coming directors like David Karlak, Colin Levy, and Patrick Jean. And in every issue we’ve done interviews with the likes of Ken Liu, Cat Rambo, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, and Aliette de Bodard. But the best way to see exactly what we do is to checkout the magazine at http://waylinesmagazine.com. You can see our Fiction Archives or our Film Archives to go through everything we’ve run in Year One.

Poetry and Comics:

For Year Two we’d like to expand Waylines. One of our goals has been to make Waylines a place where the various communities of sci-fi can intermingle and possibly get a taste of the other formats. Now we’d like to add poetry and comics to that mix.

Year Two Schedule:

In Year One, Waylines was a bi-monthly magazine featuring 2 to 3 stories an issue. Now we are trying to consolidate our issues into meatier quarterly issues. For 2014, we plan on releasing issues in the Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter with each issue featuring:

  • 3 short stories
  • 3 short films
  • 1 or 2 interviews (including The Writers Room)
  • 2 poems
  • 1 to 3 comics (between 1-4 pages each)
