German author Nina George sold North American rights to her novel The Little Paris Bookshop to Christine Kopprasch at Crown, in a pre-empt sale conducted by Cecile Barendsma of the Janklow & Nesbit Agency, on behalf of George’s agent, Keil & Keil Literatur-Agentur.
The book, originally published in German as Das Lavendelzimmer (The Lavender Room), follows a man who sells novels from his “literary pharmacy,” a floating bookstore on the Seine. He knows which novels can serve as the medicine for life for others, but can’t heal himself. After two decades, he opens a letter from his lost love, and travels down the river to discover what happened to her. In the process, he shows that the world of books can take the human soul on a journey to heal itself.
