Juliana Rew’s Third Flatiron Publishing writes with news of their newest anthology, [[[Playing with Fire]]], “an anthology of science fiction short stories by an international group of established and emerging speculative fiction writers.
“Follow these talented storytellers as they spin cautionary tales of fires and backfires from botched inventions, culture clashes, evil empires, comets and meteors, capricious gods and vengeful spirits, voracious foodstuffs, zombie children, and, of course, man’s best friend.
“This anthology treats a literary theme that we feel will be interesting to teachers, students, and SF/Fantasy fans alike, namely, not taking everything at face value and learning from our blunders. The classic story, ‘The Carnival,’ by Michael Fedo, was published back in 1968 in several Scholastic Magazines. Since then, it has become something of an iconic story with middle school and high school students around the country. The story has its own Wikipedia page, and each year the author receives numerous queries from students and teachers about the story, though the story has long been out of print. We agreed that it merits republication alongside these other excellent tales.”
