Top Box Office Grossers – Fourth Week in September

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the we of 21-27 September 2012. Jake Gyllenhaal’s new crime thriller End of Watch opened at the top of the charts, while the new Clint Eastwood relationships movie Trouble with the Curve opened at #2. The horrific Jennifer Lawrence-Elisabeth Shue House at the End of the Street opened at #3, killing $15.1 million. Finding Nemo 3D slipped from #2 to #4, swimming up $11.9 million, for a two-week total of $32.4 million. Resident Evil: Retribution fell from #1 to #5, grossing $8.9 million, for a two-week total of $35.7 million. The comic-book remake Dredd 3D opened at #6, judging $8.6 million. The Master climbed from #19 to #7, clearing $5.8 million, for a two-week total of $6.9 million. The Possession fell from #3 to #8, collecting $3.4 million, for a four-week total of $46.0 million. ParaNorman slipped from #7 to #10, spooking up $2.9 million, for a six-week total of $53.2 million.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green slipped from #9 to #12, growing $2.0 million, for a six-week total of $49.1 million. The Dark Knight Rises slipped from #12 to #14, raising $1.7 million, for a ten-week total of $443.6 million. Ice Age: Continental Drift slipped from #21 to #22, melting $700 thousand, for an eleven-week total of $158.7 million.  The Avengers slipped from #20 to #23, teaming up $600 thousand, for a twenty-one-week total of $623.0 million.

Falling out of the top 25 this week were:

Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark: The IMAX Experience (last week’s #23) in its third week in release (box office total: $3.1 million)

Ted (last week’s #24) in its thirteenth week in release (box office total: $217.9 million)

Robot & Frank (last week’s #25) in its sixth week in release (box office total: $3.0 million)
