In a bit of a surprise, Snow White and the Huntsman (starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles) opened at the top of the charts, charming up $75.5 million. Men in Black 3 slipped from #1 to #2, neuralizing $39.0 million, for a two-week total of $122.0 million. The Avengers slipped from #2 to #3, earning $28.6 million, for a five-week total of $561.1 million. Battleship slipped from #3 to #4, battling up $7.2 million, for a three-week total of $57.5 million. Dark Shadows fell from #5 to #8, vamping up $5.4 million, for a four-week total of $72.4 million. Nuclear horror fest Chernobyl Diaries fell from #6 to #9, blowing up $4.7 million, for a two-week total of $16.1 million. Historical For Greater Glory opened at #10.
The Hunger Games slipped from #9 to #11, fighting up $2.4 million, for an eleven-week total of $399.2 million. The Pirates! Band of Misfits fell from #11 to #15, swashbuckling up $900 thousand, for a six-week total of $28.8 million. Mirror Mirror slipped from #15 to #17, magicking up $600 thousand, for a ten-week total of $63.1 million. The Lorax slipped from #16 to #18, greening up $550 thousand, for a fourteen-week total of $211.7 million.
