Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week in March 2012

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 23-29 March 2012. Surprising absolutely no one, the film version of the first book in Suzanne Collins’ YA series The Hunger Games gobbled up the competition, opening at the top of the charts and fighting up $189.9 million. The Lorax slipped from #2 to #3, greening up $17.3 million, for a four-week total of $181.5 million. John Carter slipped from #3 to #4, earning $6.9 million, for a three-week total of $64.2 million. Drama October Baby opened in wide release at #8 on the charts. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island slipped from #8 to #10, actioning up $1.9 million, for a seven-week total of $97.6 million.
Silent House fell from #12 to #17, spooking up $850 thousand, for a three-week total of $12.2 million. Indian action flick Agent Vinod opened in the US at #20. Hugo fell from #19 to #23, clocking in $350 thousand, for an eighteen-week total of $73.6 million. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked climbed from #25 to #24, singing up $350 thousand, for a fifteen-week total of $132.1 million. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance fell from #17 to #25, burning up $300 thousand, for a six-week total of $50.4 million.
