Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 24 February-1 March 2012. Action flick Act of Valor and drama Good Deeds opened at #1 and #2, respectively. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island held onto the #3 spot for the third week in a row, actioning up $15.4 million, for a three-week total of $78.7 million. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance slipped from #4 to #6, burning up $11.1 million, for a two-week total of $40.2 million. Comedy Wanderlust and suspense flick Gone opened at #8 and #9, respectively. The Secret World of Arrietty slipped from #8 to #10, earning $5.1 million, for a two-week total of $15.3 million.
Chronicle slipped from #7 to #11, making $4.6 million, for a four-week total of $58.9 million. Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace fell from #6 to #13, forcing $3.8 million, for a three-week total of $41.1 million. The Woman in Black fell from #9 to #14, haunting up $3.4 million, for a four-week total of $51.1 million. Hugo slipped from #14 to #16, clocking in $2.2 million, for a fourteen-week total of $70.1 million. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows slipped from #20 to #22, seeking out $500 thousand, for an eleven-week total of $186.0 million. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked slipped from #21 to #24, singing up $450 thousand, for an eleven-week total of $130.5 million.
