Top Box Office Grossers: First Week in February 2012

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 3-9 February 2012. Superpowers top the charts, as Chronicle opens in the #1 spot, making $27.9 million. Daniel Radcliffe’s non-Potter side is on display as The Woman In Black opens #2, haunting up $25.2 million. Drew Barrymore saves some whales in Big Miracle, which opens at #4. Underworld Awakening slipped from #2 to #5, sucking up $7.7 million, for a three-week total of $56.4 million.
Beauty and the Beast fell from #9 to #13, dancing up $3.3 million, for a four-week total of $45.6 million. Hugo climbed, for the second week in a row, this time from #15 to #14, clocking in $3.0 million (just a bit less than last week), for an eleven-week total of $62.8 million. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo slipped from #17 to #19, seeking out $1.4 million, for a seven-week total of $100.3 million. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows fell from #16 to #21, deducing $1.4 million, for an eight-week total of $184.2 million. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked slipped from #19 to #22, singing up $1.2 million, for an eight-week total of $128.5 million. The Adventures of Tintin slipped from #21 to #24, adventuring up $900 thousand, for a seven-week total of $75.5 million.
