Elaine Isaak, author of The Singer’s Crown and other fantasy novels, is pleased to announce the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to create a writer’s manual entitled An Author’s Grimoire.
A grimoire is a textbook for sorcerers, full of the information they need to make magic. An Author’s Grimoire will be a how-to book for fantasy writers: a nitty gritty guide to developing fantasy ideas, writing a fantasy novel, and marketing the novel first to editors, then to readers. This book will include discussions of elements of fiction like pacing, characters and point of view, but with the fantasy writer in mind—covering topics like world-building, fantasy creatures, and culture creation.
Kickstarter is an online resource that helps creators hook up with backers who pledge to support the new work financially. Each Kickstarter creator sets up a profile with information about the project, including an introductory video, description of the work, and biographical information to show what will make the project a success.
Isaak plans to start with three years’ worth of columns about fantasy writing which were written for Alien Skin Magazine, together with articles she wrote for The Writer, and workshops like her popular “Ten Mistakes I’ve Made in my Writing Career so That You Don’t Have to.” The book will feature a foreword by another New Hampshire author and editor, Jeanne Cavelos, director of the Odyssey Writing Workshop Trust. Isaak’s Kickstarter campaign will last from February 17 through April 2.
