Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 28 October-3 November 2011. The newest Shrek spin-off, Puss In Boots, opened at the top of the charts, swashbuckling up $42.5 million. Paranormal Activity 3 slipped from #1 to #2, scaring up $24.0 million, for a two-week total of $86.8 million. In Time, the Justin Timberlake suspense flick apparently based on Harlan Ellison’s “‘Repent, Harlequin!’ Said the Ticktockman” (see this article) opened at #3, saving $16.5 million. Johnny Depp’s The Rum Diary opened at #4. Real Steel fell from #2 to #6, fighting up $6.2 million, for a four-week total of $75.3 million.
Indian SF adventure flick Ra. One opened at #14, creating $1.8 million. Alternate Shakespeare movie Anonymous opened at #15. The Thing fell from #9 to #16, assuming $1.3 million, for a three-week total of $16.5 million. Contagion slipped from #16 to #21, sneezing up $500 thousand, for an eight-week total of $74.3 million.
