Top Box Office Grossers: Third Week in October 2011

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 14-20 October 2011. Real Steel held onto the top spot, fighting up another $20.5 million, for a two-week total of $55.9 million. The remake of Footloose danced its way to the second spot. The newest incarnation of The Thing arrived at #3, assuming $11.0 million. Comedy The Big Year opened at #9. The Lion King slipped from #7 to #10, roaring up $3.6 million, for a five-week total of $91.4 million.
Contagion slipped from #10 to #12, sneezing up $2.4 million, for a six-week total of $72.6 million. The Smurfs slipped from #17 to #18, smurfing up $450 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $140.0 million. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II slipped from #16 to #19, conjuring up $400 thousand, for a fourteen-week total of $380.4 million. Rise of the Planet of the Apes slipped from #19 to #22, turning over $350 thousand, for an eleven-week total of $175.4 million. Captain America: The First Avenger fell from #18 to #23, commanding $300 thousand, for a thirteen-week total of $176.3 million. Cars 2 fell from #20 to #25, revving up $300 thousand, for a seventeen-week total of $190.9 million.
