RHCB to publish epic fantasy debut—Eragon meets Game of Thrones

A press release from Lauren Bennett of Random House:
Random House Children’s Books is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Seraphina by Rachel Hartman. The two book deal was secured by Annie Eaton, Fiction Publisher and Ruth Knowles, Commissioning Editor, in a pre-empt for UK and Commonwealth rights. The deal was made with Angharad Kowal and Daniel Lazar at Writers House.
RHCB, also the home of the bestselling Inheritance cycle by Christopher Paolini, will be publishing the epic fantasy debut alongside Random House Inc in Spring 2012.
Seraphina is a strong new heroine at the heart of a gripping fantasy novel set in a world populated by humans and dragons in human form. It will appeal to all fans of Paolini and Anne McCaffrey.
Ruth Knowles comments, “We are incredibly pleased and proud to be publishing this wonderful novel alongside our sister companies in the US and Canada. This is a novel and a world you are truly immersed in from page one. Rachel Hartman’s beautiful writing and Seraphina’s feisty temperament will be so appealing to readers.”
Rachel Hartman added: “I am so pleased that Seraphina has found a home in England, which is a source of inspiration for my work as well as the birthplace of many fantasy writers I admire. I hope my book charms and delights readers there, and it is truly my honour to be published in a country so close to my heart.”
Hartman is a comparative literature graduate. She has written and illustrated comic books, and has worked in a variety of bookstores. She was born in Kentucky, USA, but has lived in England, Japan, Mexico, and Canada. Rachel lives with her family in Vancouver, BC.
