Locus is reporting the death of Australian author Sara Warneke, who wrote fantasy as Sara Douglass, on 26 September 2011 of cancer. Born 2 June 1957 in Penola, SA, Australia, she won two Aurealis Awards for best fantasy novel: In 1996, her novels Starman and Enchanter (the second and third volumes of her Axis Trilogy) shared the award with Jack Dann’s The Memory Cathedral. In 2001, her The Wounded Hawk was the sole winner. She earned ten other Aurealis nominations and three nominations for Ditmar awards.
Douglass’s first book, Battle-Axe, appeared in 1995. The first book in her Axis Trilogy, it was a finalist for the Aurealis. She went on to wrote more than 20 books, including the Wayfarer Redemption series, the Crucible trilogy, and the Darkglass Mountain series.
