Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week in July 2011

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 22-28 July 2011. There’s a new hero on the charts, and his name is America. Captain America: The First Avenger opened at number commanding $91.9 million. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II slipped from #1 to #2, but still conjured up $70.4 million, for a two-week total of $296.5 million. Non-romantic comedy Friends with Benefits opened at #3. Transformers: Dark of the Moon fell from #2 to #5, transforming $18.1 million, for a four-week total of $331.9 million. Cars 2 slipped from #5 to #7, revving up $9.1 million, for a five-week total of $179.8 million. Winnie the Pooh slipped from #6 to #8, finding $8.2 million, for a two-week total of $20.7 million.
Super 8 fell from #9 to #14, making $1.2 million, for a seven-week total of $124.7 million. Green Lantern fell from #14 to #20, shining up $600 thousand, for a six-week total of $114.1 million. Thor climbed from #22 to #21, pounding down $600 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $180.4 million. X-Men: First Class fell from #16 to #22, earning $550 thousand, for an eight-week total of $144.4 million. Rio slipped from #23 to #24, flying away with $550 thousand, for a fifteen-week total of $142.8 million. Kung Fu Panda 2 fell from #19 to #25, kicking up $550 thousand, for a nine-week total of $161.0 million.
