Michael A. Burstein writes to let us know that “my short story ‘Kaddish for the Last Survivor’ has been adapted into a play by David Strauss and will be produced in October at the second annual John Going Memorial One-Act Festival. Friends who live in Orlando, Florida, take note.”
The Festival, sponsored by Playwrights’ Round Table, features 30-45 minute one act scripts, which will be produced in October.
Playwright David Strauss tells us “I’ve had about a dozen plays produced around Central Florida over the past three and a half years. A mix of short pieces and one acts, comedies, and dramas. I grew up reading a lot of SF, so as my writing skills have gotten better I’ve been trying to bring some of those ideas into my playwriting. I’m also an actor, director, and producer. It’s not my day job, theatre is just something I do for fun.
“As for ‘Kaddish’ itself, Michael and I have known each other for about fifteen years, we actually met through Babylon 5 fandom. I always loved the story and thought it had the potential to make a good dramatic piece, but it wasn’t until a few months ago when I finally decided to give it a shot.”
The story, first published in 2000 in Analog Science Fiction and Fact, was a Hugo and Nebula nominee.
