Heralding the impending conclusion of William C. Dietz‘s Legion of the Damned series, publisher Ace Books and Offworld Games have announced the development of an all-new strategic warfare game based on the series. The game, also entitled Legion of the Damned, will be available for download exclusively from the iTunes App Store starting on 20 October.
Legion of the Damned was published in 1993, and “launched a critically acclaimed military science fiction series that would continue through eight more novels. The ninth and final book in the series, A Fighting Chance will be published in hardcover on 1 November.”
Dietz said about this new venture, “Thanks to the exciting partnership between Ace Books and Offworld Games, my Legion of the Damned novels are going to come alive in a very exciting way! From now on, Legion fans will be able to read the books and battle each other via the game.”
In Legion of the Damned, players are charged with saving the planet Algeron from the Hudathan invasion. Offworld Games’ comprehensive design includes illustrated story art, voiceovers by professional actors and 17 different missions to play through-including a feature that allows players to build their own unique battlefield map and then share the result with fellow gamers.
Legion of the Damned will test players’ strategic skills through a tactical warfare game for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Gamers will have access to a variety of weapons such as snipers, landmines, indirect mortar fire, stealth, and more. An online multiplayer option will allow players to challenge opponents all around the world, or play with friends locally via Hotseat.
Conlan Rios, CEO of Offworld Games said, “We are Legion of the Damned fans—and have been for years. So the chance to create a game based on the universe is a thrill-as is the opportunity to partner in a joint release with Ace Books.”
