Number 13 will be the last Sookie Stackhouse book

Author Charlaine Harris has announced on NBC Miami’s PopcornBiz blog that the forthcoming thirteenth Sookie Stackhouse novel will be the last. “On the page, I have two more [Sookie] books,” she said. “I’m writing Book Twelve and then there will be Book Thirteen. And then I’ll think of something else new and wonderful to do.” And apparently, she really is planning to end it “I think it’ll be total closure. I don’t go back to things once I’ve finished them. That’s kind of what I do. I don’t want to write Sookie after I get stale. Yeah, I’ll miss them, I’m sure, because I have lived with them for quite a long time—twelve years now. And it did take two years to sell the first book. But I think writers like to do different things. At least this writer does.”
Asked about her other upcoming projects, Harris said “I’m going to be working on a graphic novel next. I’m very excited about that. It’s called Cemetery Girl, with Christopher Golden, and it’s a very exciting opportunity.” The story will follow a woman living in a cemetery who has no memory of her past, but a clear sense of a mysterious threat hanging over her. She’d originally plotted it out as a straight text novel, but then put it aside until Golden convinced her it ought to be a graphic novel.
