Publisher Ace Books reports that Warner Bros bought the film rights to the entire trilogy that launches with Heaven’s Shadow by David S. Goyer & Michael Cassutt. Goyer is already set to write and direct the film, which, according to Penguin Associate Publicist Rosanne Romanello, is “being fast-tracked and is set to hit theatres as early at July 2012.”
The premise of the series, according to Romanello, “begins like a disaster movie, with the discovery of an object of unknown origin headed toward Earth. Speculation as to what this object might be runs high, and leads to an international competition to be the first to land on it, to claim both the prestige and whatever other benefits there might be. Two rival teams of astronauts begin a thrilling and dangerous race, but what they find when they reach their goal will turn out to be unlike anything they could have imagined. The story takes an unexpected turn into the science fiction territory of Arthur C. Clarke, with a shocking twist. Blending science fiction and suspense, the novel spins a web rich with the unexplainable and pushes the boundaries of what is imaginable.”
