Larry Ashmead Award to further young editors’ education

Following legendary editor Larry Ashmead’s death last year (see this obituary), his friends and colleagues have created the Ashmead Award in his honor. The award, will be given to one young editor with “approximately four years’ experience” nominated by an “established” publisher or editor.
The award will pay for the tuition and costs for a “recognized publishing educational venue” and provide “access to a distinguished advisory committee of prominent editors,” according to a press release. Speaking for the award committee, HarperCollins Senior Vice President Brenda Segal said editors who have “more experience (than four years) will also be considered.”
This year’s Ashmead Award winner will attend the Yale Publishing Course, in late July in New Haven, Connecticut. Submission information is available at TheAshmeadAward.com. Applications deadline is 15 June.
