Actor William Campbell Dies

Actor William Campbell died 28 April 2011 of natural causes. Born 30 October 1926 in Newark, New Jersey, he may be best remembered for three guest-starring roles in the Star Trek universe. First, he appeared as Trelane in the original series episode “The Squire of Gothos” (1967). Then he returned to the show as the Klingon Captain Koloth in “The Trouble with Tribbles” (1967). He reprised the role of Koloth in the Deep Space Nine episode “Blood Oath” (1994).
Campbell’s first acting role was in the 1950 film The Breaking Point, and throughout his career, he was a supporting actor and occasional guest star. His few starring roles in film were in minor movies. In 1956, however, he became the first actor ever to sing with Elvis Presley in a motion picture, in Love Me Tender.
His other genre appearances included: Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (1996, his last acting role), The Return of the Six-Million-Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (1987), Shazam! (1976), The Wild Wild West (1966), Blood Bath (1966), Portrait in Terror (1965), Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), and Dementia 13 (1963).
After he retired from acting, Campbell was for a time the administrator of the Motion Picture Country Home in Woodland Hills, California, a retirement home for elderly members of the motion picture industry.
Campbell was married three times, his first two marriages ending in divorce. First, to Judith Campbell Exner, who had also been linked romantically to President John Kennedy (1952-58), then to Barbara Bricker (1960-61). His third wife, Tereza Campbell—whom he married in 1962—survives him.
