Ellen Kushner’s historical-shtetl-magic-realist-feminist-musical audio drama The Witches of Lublin airing this week

Ellen Kushner writes with news of her “historical-shtetl-magic-realist-feminist-musical audio drama, The Witches of Lublin, which will be broadcast twice this month in New York City for the Passover season.”
She will host the broadcast, and was also the script’s co-author with klezmer khochems Yale Strom & Elizabeth Schwartz. The program is directed and produced by award-winning audio veteran Sue Zizza, and stars Tovah Feldshuh, with features Simon Jones, Barbara Rosenblat, Neil Gaiman, and a host of New York’s finest voice talent.
The first broadcast will be this Wednesday, 13 April, at midnight= on WBAI 99.5 FM. The program will be followed, at 1AM, by an hour of call-in chat with host Jim Freund, cast actor Tim Jerome, and co-authors Schwartz and Kushner. There will be a second NYC broadcast on Sunday, 17 April, at 10PM on WNYC 93.9 FM.

In the story, “They say the Devil came to Lublin, Poland once, in the early spring of the year 1797 of the Christian calendar. For the Jews of Lublin, it was the month of Nisan in the year 5557.” The tale takes place around Passover, and is more fully described on this page.
