Dave Freer sells two steampunk novels to Pyr

Dave Freer has signed a two-book deal with Lou Anders at Pyr to write his first steampunk novels. The deal, negotiated by agent Michael Kabongo, will cover Cuttlefish and its sequel.
Freer said “It’s exciting to be taking a new direction, and I’ve already had great feedback on covers.” The Victorian era setting will deal with some of the consequences of coal being its chief fuel.
Kabongo said “This is a great opportunity for Dave to enter a new market with a different publisher and not taint the success and image he’s developed over a long, congenial relationship with Baen. I fully expect this to serve all parties quite well. Fans will get more of Dave Freer’s writing, both Lou Anders at Pyr and Toni Weisskopf at Baen will get the type of stories that best fit their fan base, and Dave Freer gets to write a wider variety of fiction that will keep him from burning out the way many writers do.”
