Top Box Office Grossers: Second Week in March 2011

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 11-17 March 2011. Alien invasion flick Battle: Los Angeles opened at the top of the charts, shooting up $46.0 million. Rango slipped from #1 to #2, rounding up $31.7 million, for a two-week total of $77.3 million. Fairy-tale remake Red Riding Hood opened at #3, gobbling up $18.7 million. The Adjustment Bureau slipped from #2 to #4, arranging $15.9 million, for a two-week total of $42.8 million. Animated adventure Mars Needs Moms opened at #5, kidnapping $10.1 million. Beastly fell from #3 to #7, making $7.1 million, for a two-week total of $19.0 million. Gnomeo & Juliet slipped from #5 to #8, romancing up $5.8 million, for a five-week total of $91.3 million.
I am Number Four slipped from #9 to #12, earning $3.4 million, for a four-week total of $51.6 million. Tangled had a second strong showing in a row, climbing again, this week from #18 to #17, spinning up $1.1 million (about 10% more than what it earned last week), for a sixteen-week total of $197.1 million. After falling out of the top 25 two weeks ago, Yogi Bear comes roaring back, to #19, snatching up $750 thousand, for a thirteen-week total of $99.0 million. Black Swan fell from #15 to #20, swooping up $650 thousand, for a fifteen-week total of $106.1 million. The Green Hornet, which last week fell out of the top 25, this week popped back up to $22, earning $550 thousand, for a nine-week total of $97.7 million.
