2011 Golden Globe Nominees Announced

It’s starting to feel like, as a speculative fiction news site, we shouldn’t even bother to mention that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced this year’s Golden Globe Award nominations today.The award ceremony takes place at 8PM EST (5PM PST) on 16 January 2009 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and will be telecast live on NBC. The 68th Golden Globes will be the first of the new year’s television and movie awards.
Two fewer nominees picked up one more nomination this year than last (nine films and two television programs last year, seven films and two programs this year; 15 nominations last year, 16 nominations this year).

Alice in Wonderland: nominated for Best Motion Picture—Comedy or Musical; nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture—Comedy or Musical (Johnny Depp); nominated for Best Original Score—Motion Picture (Danny Elfman)
Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader: nominated for Best Original Song—Motion Picture (“There’s a Place for Us” by Hillary Lindsey, Carrie Underwood, and David Hodges)
Despicable Me: nominated for Best Animated Feature Film
How to Train Your Dragon: nominated for Best Animated Feature Film
Inception: nominated for Best Motion Picture—Drama; nominated for Best Director—Motion Picture (Christopher Nolan); nominated for Best Screenplay—Motion Picture (Christopher Nolan); nominated for Best Original Score—Motion Picture (Hans Zimmer)
Tangled: nominated for Best Animated Feature Film; nominated for Best Original Song—Motion Picture (“I See the Light” by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater)
Toy Story 3: nominated for Best Animated Feature Film

Edited 19 January 2011: We published the above article before realizing that Black Swan, too, is a genre film (see this review). That movie garnered four nominations, including: Best Motion Picture—Drama; Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture—Drama (Natalie Portman); Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Mila Kunis); Best Director (Darren Aronofsky).

    Congrats to The Walking Dead, but I do kinda wish Warehouse 13 had made the list. If Big Bang Theory can make it, so can Warehouse 13.
