Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 22-28 October 2010. It’s the Halloween season, which means horror films are coming back. Paranormal Activity 2 opened with $49.2 million in box office activity. That pushed Jackass 3D and Red down one spot each. Hereafter, which opened last week in limited release, this week found itself in wide release, and earned $15.5 million, for a two-week total of $15.8 million. The Social Network, Secretariat, and Life as We Know It were all pushed down, to numbers 5-7. Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga’Hoole slipped from #7 to #8, swooping up $3.9 million, for a five-week total of $50.9 million.
My Soul to Take fell from #8 to #12, taking in $1.4 million, for a three-week total of $14.3 million. Alpha and Omega climbed from #18 to #15, wolfing down $875 thousand (12% less than last week), for a six-week total of $23.7 million. Devil slipped from #15 to #17, scaring up $775 thousand, for a six-week total of $32.6 million. Inception climbed from #23 to #18, earning $700 thousand (40% more than last week), for a fifteen-week total of $290.6 million. Toy Story 3 slipped from #19 to #21, playing up $600 thousand, for a nineteen-week total of $413.6 million. Case 39 fell from #13 to #22, earning $550 thousand, for a four-week total of $12.9 million. Despicable Me held steady at #24, grossing $450 thousand (about the same as last week), for a sixteen-week total of $247.6 million.
