Top Box Office Grossers: First Week in November 2010

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 29 October-4 November 2010. The end of October means the beginning of horror flicks. This week, Saw 3D found itself in the theatres and at the top of the charts, chopping up $30.6 million (it was the only new film this week in the top 10). Paranormal Activity 2 slipped from #1 to #2, with activity of $20.8 million, for a two-week total of $69.9 million. Hereafter slipped from #4 to #5, earning $8.9 million, for a three-week total of $24.7 million. Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga’Hoole fell from #8 to #10, swooping up $2.6 million, for a six-week total of $53.5 million.
Devil showed some strength, holding steady at #17, scaring up $675 thousand, for a seven-week total of $33.2 million. Alpha and Omega fell from #15 to #18, wolfing down $650 thousand, for a seven-week total of $24.3 million. Inception slipped from #18 to #20, earning $550 thousand, for a sixteen-week total of $291.1 million. Toy Story 3 slipped from #21 to #22, playing up $425 thousand, for a twenty-week total of $414.0 million. My Soul to Take fell from #12 to #23, taking in $400 thousand, for a four-week total of $14.7 million.
Falling out of the top 25 this week were:
Case 39 (last week’s #22) in its fifth week in release (box office total: $13.1 million)
Despicable Me (last week’s #24) in its seventeenth week in release (box office total: $248.0 million)
Not really a genre film, the horrific mystery The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest (the third of Steig Larson’s Millennium trilogy) opened in limited release (it is, after all, a foreign language, subtitled film) and found itself at #13 on the charts, as the only other new film on the charts this week.
