The Chronic Rift Podcast, based on the popular New York public access television show of the 1990s, is releasing its 100th episode and launching its third year of podcasting this month. Hosted weekly by John S. Drew and the Chronic Rift regulars, the show offers news, reviews, interviews, and discussion on various aspects of pop culture with an emphasis on science fiction, fantasy, horror, and comic art.
Our release schedule for September follows:
6-11 September: “The 100th episode”—Each day, one member of the Rift crew will present the audio from a classic public access show episode to showcase the series’ on iTunes (see this article).
6 September: Censorship panel (recorded live at the I-Con XI convention)
7 September: Frankenstein, the First Science Fiction Novel?
8 September: Science Fiction in the Classroom
9 September: An Interview with Ray Harryhausen
10 September: Peter David
11 September: A two-part look at Japanese Animation
Guests for these episodes include authors Bruce Coville, Greg Cox, Peter David, and Nancy Kress, editor James Frenkel, and, of course, Ray Harryhausen.
14 September: “The Real IT Crowd”—A group of real information technology professionals will discuss the portrayal of the profession on television and in film.
21 September: “New York Comic Con”—In preparation for the show in October, we will feature interviews and previews of what to expect at the convention. John and several other Rift members will be attending and covering the event that will be featured in future episodes.
28 September: “In Review”—The Rift gang gather to offer their thoughts on various aspects of pop culture. Cinefantastique writer and Rift contributor Dan Persons returns to the show as our regular movie critic with his feature, “The Cineplex at the End of the Universe”.
