Mark Lord launching Alt Hist, magazine of alternate history

British author Mark Lord tells us he’s launching Alt Hist, a “new magazine of Historical Fiction and Alternate History. Lovers of historical fiction for too long have been denied outlets for short pieces of fiction, as the number of print and online magazines for historical short fiction is very limited compared to the popularity of fiction set in past times. Alt Hist‘s mission is to provide readers with entertaining and well-written short stories with a historical setting, whether portraying actual events or events that could have happened. If you read and enjoy historical fiction, alternate history or historical fantasy then we think you will like Alt Hist.”
Right now, he’s looking for fiction submissions of fewer than 10,000 words, some non-fiction, and art. Submission guidelines are on this page. He’s not offering any up-front payment; writing “We don’t pay a fee for pieces submitted as unfortunately we don’t have any money (only time!) to invest in this project. Instead we will give you a cut of profits made from sale of the magazine either as an ebook or printed volume. We plan to distribute the ebook via Smashwords and the printed book via a print on demand provider such as Lulu or Amazon.”
Of himself, Lord says “My full time day job is in publishing, but in the field of academic journals and books, which has given me experience of marketing serial publications.”
