Danielle Ackley-McPhail reading for Bad-Ass Faeries 4

Editor Danielle Ackley-McPhail tells us she’s reading for Bad-Ass Faeries 4: It’s Elemental (which she’ll be co-editing with L. Jagi Lamplighter, Lee C. Hillman, and Jeffrey Lyman). The latest installment in the Bad-Ass Faeries series will be “a collection of unconventional stories about bad-ass elemental faeries with a focus on urban fantasy. Faeries should interact with the human world in some capacity visualized as tough, and for this collection, in a logical profession that is linked to their element: truckers, deep-sea fisherman, cowboys, police, firemen, freedom fighters, crocodile wrestlers, paratroopers, sled-dog drivers, etc.”
The book will be divided into sections by element (Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and possibly Spirit), meaning “that competition will be fiercer because we will be accepting stories by section as well as by overall quality.”
She has two specific “don’t”s in her call for submissions:
1. “Don’t call your faeries elementals, we want specific faeries from myth and legend that are affiliated to one of the elements.” She’ll be posting a list soon at http://sidhenadaire.com/submissions.htm.
2. “Don’t include faeries from all of the elements in your story.… Each story should have one primary element incorporated into the plot.”
She wants to see proposals before finished stories, to “avoid overlap among the submissions.” With the proposal, include “an author’s note about the specific type of faerie you have selected for absolute clarity.” Submissions should be e-mailed to Ackley-McPhail at: greenfirephoenix (at) aol (dot) com.
The anthology, as the previous three were, will be published by Mundania Press, in print and e-book editions, with a possibility of a limited edition hardcover as well. Payment will be an equal share of royalties (which will be 20% for the print edition and 50% for the electronic edition).

    An update for everyone,
The submission page has been updated with both the above information and a list of elemental faeries. The list is by no means comprehensive, though we have done our best to compile a nice selection for each of the elements. This list will be periodically updated with those that have been selected in a separate column.
    Best,
    Danielle
