Ellen Datlow writes “Way back in the ’80s, a bunch of female editors and agents got together on a fairly regular basis for friendly dinners. We called it poker night, even though we never played poker. Shawna McCarthy had the idea of reviving the custom with those members of the group still in New York City, so here are most of us.
“We figured out that among the ten of us, we have 317 years of experience in publishing. We also figured out how much weight we’d each like to lose and (luckily) it came out much less than the years we’ve been in publishing.”
