The City & The City wins Clarke Award

China Miéville‘s The City & The City (published by Macmillan) won this year’s Arthur C. Clarke Award. The juried award, which includes a prize of £2010, is “the most prestigious award for science fiction in Britain.” Miéville’s win makes him the first author to win the award three times.
As was the case last year, the award announcement was part of the opening ceremonies of Sci-Fi-London 8: The Eighth Annual International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film.
Of the win, Miéville said “‘This has been a truly fantastic shortlist: it’s been a huge honour to be on it, shortlists being probably the most important aspect of any award. And now after all that is the astonishment of hearing that my book won. I couldn’t be more moved by and grateful for the honour the judges have done this book.”
More information on the award, as well as the short list from which the winner was chosen, appeared in this article in March. The Clarke Award page has comments from the judges, along with an audio file of the award ceremony.
