ChiZine Publications creepy photo contest winners

ChiZine Publications (CZP) has named the winner of their creepy photo contest (which they announced in March, in this article). The contest was to submit a “subtle, creepy, evocative photo of your city—or any city—at night” to tie in with the release of Philip Nutman’s Cities of Night. Ania Bibulowicz, of Queens, New York, won with her photo entitled “Dark Passenger.” As part of the prize, Nutman wrote the short story “Dead Highways,” based on the photo. The winning photo and the story are available on CZP’s web site.
The rest of the winner’s prize package includes 25 postcards with her photograph on one side and “Dead Highways” on the other, as well as a limited edition, signed hardcover copy of Cities of Night. The three runners-up will receive trade paperback copies of the book. The prize postcards were also given away at the launch party at the Alcove Contemporary Arts Gallery in Decatur, Georgia, and will be featured at upcoming CZP events.
“We’re thrilled by the turnout,” said CZP Co-Publisher Sandra Kasturi. “Not just the number of people who participated, but the quality of the work. We got just what we asked for: creepy, dark, disturbing. It shows there is definite crossover in the style and mood of both written and visual arts.”
There were 77 submissions, and after the CZP staff chose the 10 finalists, Nutman selected the winner.
