Agent Joshua Bilmes reports that the Fremantle Corporation and Kaleidoscope Entertainment are developing a new vampire series, called Smoke & Mirrors, based on Tanya Huff‘s “Smoke” series. They’re currently looking for production partners, possibly in Canada or the European Union, to bring the series to the small screen. Kaleidoscope President Randall Zalken will executive produce the series. (Kaleidoscope was the company that created the current Lifetime series Blood Ties out of Huff’s Blood books.)
The series stars sexy 474-year-old vampire Henry Fitzroy. In the Smoke & Mirrors, Fitzroy “heads west to where one of his graphic novels, Darkest Night, has been picked up as a television series with Henry on board as the creative consultant. As Smoke & Mirrors begins, Darkest Night has started production of season two and Henry has a surprise visit from an old friend who needs his help. Unable to turn her away, he convinces the show to hire her on as a PA. During the first episode, Henry’s friend is flabbergasted to discover special talents and, as the episode ends, is presented with a netbook computer that doubles as a spell-book. As these talents slowly begin to manifest over the course of the series, vampire Henry Fitzroy and his friend, now a Wizard in training, find themselves up to their eyeballs in demons, zombies, ghosts, and other bump-in-the-night entities in their real world while the show’s paranormal detectives, voluptuous vampire Antonia Dark and her teen heartthrob sidekick confront it in their fictional one.”
Zalken said “We are thrilled and very honored to be working on a new series of books by Tanya Huff again. As a master of urban fantasy it is all there for us, not just the wonderful characters, the tension easing humor and the devious, supernatural plot twists, this time out we get an inside look at life on the set, tons of showbiz and genre clichés, and of course, the return of Henry!”
Huff said “I’m delighted to be working once again with the great people at Kaleidoscope who did such an amazing job bringing the Vicki Nelson books to the screen. Henry Fitzroy couldn’t be in better hands.”
OMG it would be so neat if Kyle Schmid once again played Henry.
So Tony is not only cut out of the Vicki Nelson series, but out of the adaptation of his very own story? Way to wreck a story by removing one of the most likable, human characters Huff ever created. Oh, and “Antonia Dark?” No Mason either? Fun.
Yay, television! You just made me hate you even more. *facepalms*
My comment is not showing up but I echo WTF!
What the hell is the point? It was TONY’s story, not Henry’s. I will not be tuning in on principle. HATE IT when a story is bastardized so as to offend as few people as possible.
