London, UK, bidding for 2014 WorldCon

A committee co-chaired by Steve Cooper and Mike Scott has announced a bid for the 2014 World Science Fiction Convention. London in 2014, if successful, will be held Thursday 14 August to Monday 18 August 2014 at the new International Convention Centre at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London’s Docklands (indeed, the Convention Centre is so new, that it’s only scheduled to open next month).
The bid committee includes James Bacon and Alice Lawson (deputy chairs), Claire Brialey (secretary), John Dowd (treasurer), Rita Medany (membership), and Vince Docherty and Colin Harris (advisers).
Rates for the three levels of membership are:
Pre-Supporting: £12 / US$20 / €15 / C$21 / A$22 / ¥1800
Friend: £60 / US$100 / €70 / C$1105 / A$110 / ¥9000
Young Person Friend (only valid for people born on or after 14 August 1988): £30 / US$50 / €35 / C$52 / A$55 / ¥4500
The Friend levels offer free conversion from supporting to attending membership. Pre-Supporting offers a £6 discount on convention membership.
This is the first known bid for the 2014 WorldCon (which will be voted on at the 2012 WorldCon).
Currently scheduled WorldCons include AussieCon 4 (2-6 September 2010, in Melbourne, Australia) and Renovation (17-21 August 2011, in Reno, Nevada, USA). Chaz Boston Baden maintains a list of known WorldCon bids on this page.
