POW! Entertainment and BOOM! Studios have announced a deal under which comics legend Stan Lee will create three new superhero series to be published by the direct market comic specialty publisher.
The first title, which will debut later this year, will be written by BOOM!’s Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid (who previously created the series Irredeemable and Incorruptible). The other two series will follow, “featuring A-list writers as a part of the creative team. Further announcements will clarify the teams and the timing for the roll-out.”
The announcement is the culmination of what BOOM! claims was a viral marketing campaign (though we must admit the virus didn’t reach SFScope) which stated simply Stan’s Back. BOOM! isn’t releasing any more details yet.
In 2005, Lee and attorney Arthur Lieberman formed POW! (Purveyors of Wonder) Entertainment to “create, produce, and license original intellectual properties. POW! specializes in franchises for the entertainment industry, including animation and live-action feature films, plus television, DVDs, video games, merchandising and related ancillary markets, all of which contribute to global expansion.”
