Debut YA novelist Jeff Hirsch sold The Long Walk Home and Magisterium to David Levithan and Cassandra Pelham at Scholastic. The two-book deal, sold via auction, was handled by agent Sara Crowe at Harvey Klinger. The Long Walk Home is “a post-apocalyptic story, set after ‘The Collapse’, when America was destroyed by a war with China and a pandemic flu, [and is] about what happens when a boy who has spent his whole life only surviving finds a place where he can truly live.”
About the deal, Hirsch writes “we were able to strike a very good two book deal, the terms of which continue to blow my mind, with a major house and a terrific editor. It was beyond wildest dreams territory in all ways.” Hirsch expects the first book to be out in Summer or Autumn 2011.
