Pequod Press publisher John F. Carr writes “the quality hardcover edition of Kalvan Kingmaker (the sequel to Great Kings’ War and Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen by H. Beam Piper) sold out the last of its 1,000-copy first printing in October 2009. As of today, a second edition is now available in trade hardcover from Pequod Press.
“Interestingly enough, after the first edition sold out, prices for used copies of Kalvan Kingmaker on Amazon went from $223.00 to $999.99. None were available on E-bay. As of today there is only one remaining used copy of the first edition on Amazon which is priced at $999.98.
“The fifth book in the Kalvan Saga, The Fireseed Wars, was released in a quality hardcover edition in January 2010. Not only are the Kalvan books good reading, but it appears they are also excellent investments.”
Your headline is misleading. Piper didn’t write “Kalvan Kingmaker”; Carr did. And Carr’s parenthetical aside might mislead the inattentive reader: Piper only wrote “Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen.” “Great Kings’ War” was the first non-Piper sequel, and “Kingmaker” is apparently the second.
Thanks for the information. My apologies for the mistake, which has been corrected.
