Publisher Warren Lapine and Tir Na Nog Press announce the return of Dreams of Decadence. Well, not exactly a return. The magazine was formerly a vampire magazine. The new incarnation is subtitled “Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance”, the magazine will be a full-size, bimonthly magazine devoted to urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
Editor Angela Kessler is looking for both fiction and poetry, paying 1 to 7 cents per word for the former, and $5-$10 for the latter.
For fiction, she writes that she’s “looking for well-written, plot-driven stories, 1,000–7,000 words, with well-developed characters. We want to see original ideas and story concepts, not rehashes. I like stories that explore new territory or offer a new perspective. Some of my favorite writers are Patricia Briggs, Charles De Lint, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K. Hamilton, and J.D. Robb. I like elegantly crafted prose, but remember: stories do need well-developed characters and plot no matter how lovely the writing style may be. We are pleased to announce that we are paying 1 to 7 cents per word for original fiction. (Of course, all contributors will receive a contrib copy as well.) In general, reprints will be considered only if last published at least two years ago. Payment on acceptance.” For poetry, she’ll pay $5 for “short poems such as haiku, $10 for longer ones. Multiple submissions encouraged.”
Use standard manuscript form. “If you want your manuscript returned, you must enclose a SASE with the appropriate postage (stamped, not metered). Otherwise, enclose a #10 SASE for our reply. E-mail submissions are being accepted on a trial basis until the end of February 2010. We buy First English Language Rights (one-time rights for reprints); no simultaneous submissions.”
