36th Annual Saturn Award Nominees

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Films has just announced the nominees for its 36th annual Saturn Awards. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 24 June 2010 at a site to be announced.
The 30 awards are broken down into three major sections: Film (18), Television (8), and DVD (4). Leading the pack of nominees is Avatar, with 10 nominations (last year’s nominations leader was The Dark Knight, with 11 nominations). Close behind it are Sherlock Holmes with 8, and Inglourious Basterds and Watchmen, both with 7. Forty-one different films received nominations.
In the television categories, Lost again leads the pack, with 8 nominations (last year, it had 11). Behind it are Breaking Bad, Dexter, and True Blood, each with 5. Eighteen different television productions received nominations.
Special award recipients, if any, will be announced later.
The Academy was founded in 1972 to honor and recognize genre filmmaking. Over the years, the Academy has expanded their reach to include other film genres. The organization also honors television, and home entertainment.
