Danny Fingeroth announces a special, free event, “An Evening with Mad Magazine‘s Al Jaffee”. The evening will be Wednesday 9 December 2009 from 8 to 9:30PM at Columbia University (Schermerhorn Hall, Room 501) in New York City.
Fingeroth writes: “Raised in Savannah, Georgia, Lithuania, and the Bronx, Al Jaffee (born in 1921) was in the first graduating class at New York’s High School of Music and Art. Jaffee then worked as an editor, writer, and artist for Stan Lee at Timely (later Marvel) Comics during the 1940s.
“In 1955, Jaffee joined ‘the Usual Gang of Idiots’ at Mad Magazine, where he’s been a mainstay ever since, entertaining generations with his ‘Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions’ and ‘Mad Fold-Ins.’
“Join us as Jaffee provides snappy answers to provocative questions about his art and life, including his recent book, Tall Tales (Abrams), and his upcoming memoir of his amazing life.”
Moderator Danny Fingeroth is the author of Superman on the Couch, Disguised as Clark Kent (both from Continuum), and The Rough Guide to Graphic Novels (Penguin). He’s spoken about comics at The Smithsonian Institution and The Metropolitan Museum, and is the Senior VP of Education at New York’s Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art.
